cirrus sr22 gtscirrus sr22 gts Scottsdale Airport is a general aviation reliever facility and is home to many of the Valley of the Sun's corporate aircraft.  With approximately 146,432 operations in 2012, Scottsdale Airport is one of the busiest single runway facilities in the nation.  Scottsdale Airport began in June of 1942, as Thunderbird Field II, a basic training facility for World War II Army Air Corps pilots.  The City of Scottsdale acquired the airfield in 1966.

I have been spending a lot of time up at Scottsdale Airport lately.  I normally prefer military aircraft, but I love the evening light and mountains the location provides, and from time to time, you do get a military or warbird surprise.

The airport does provide a lot of photography opportunities from outside the fence, but I have also been lucky enough to work with some of the airport's tenants.
